A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

This week the kindergartenC team invited me into their classrooms to read a book for Hispanic Heritage Month.   The book I selected was Amigo , by Carlos Zamora.  In Amigo , two roosters form a friendship over their love of soccer.  They decide to play soccer together as they explore the town.  In the process, Tony teaches Charlie Spanish words like “futbol” and “amigo.”  Students loved the rich illustrations and vibrant colors of the book.  As kindergarteners often do, they had plenty of ideas to share about the story.  I’m always amazed at the details they notice and the connections they make.

Week of Respect

Each year schools celebrate the Week of Respect during the second week of October.  We focus on classroom activities such as read alouds that reinforce the theme of respect.  Students across grade levels listened to a read aloud of The Big Umbrella .  This book delivers a positive message about the importance of kindness and hospitality, among other themes.  The extension activity involved students and staff cutting out and coloring their own shoes to fit under each homeroom’s big umbrella:

Health and Safety

Don’t forget to regularly check the LCN COVID Dashboard and FAQ for updates on how Noecker School is doing, including positive cases and quarantining numbers (travel quarantine not included). Have a question that is not listed? Use the Reopening 2.0 FAQ to ask it.

Please keep students home if they are not feeling well, even if it seems like “only a cold.” If students have traveled outside the tri-state area, someone in the household is waiting for test results, OR they have been exposed to a positive person, please contact the school nurse and stay home until PCR testing or quarantine is complete.

Thank you for your continued diligence, support, and adhering to district policy (#1648.11).
