A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

October marches on and we continue to learn.  As I walked down the hallways I saw and heard our students engaged, enthusiastic, and fully immersed in learning.  Last week I had an opportunity to visit Mrs. Sessa’s and Mrs. Petrarca’s classes as a mystery reader.  I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to read to them.  It not only served as a way to connect with students, but it also helped me revisit my teaching roots! I hope to visit more classrooms in the future.

Please check your email for a letter regarding guidelines and procedures for our Halloween parade!

Evacuation Drill

Today we held an off-site evacuation drill for all staff and students.  Students did a great job in following instructions and proceeding to our evacuation site.  Everything went smoothly! Please note that this type of security drill is mandated for all New Jersey public schools.

A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services

As we move along with October and ADHD Awareness month, we feel as though it is especially valuable to share some strategies that can be implemented both at school and at home to help support our children with ADHD.

Some strategies include:

  • Keeping a set routine and schedule for activities

  • Using a system of clear rewards and consequences, such as a point system or token economy

  • Seating the child near the instructor

  • Using small groups for activities

  • Encouraging students to pause a moment before answering questions

  • Keeping assignments short or breaking them into sections

  • Close supervision with frequent, positive cues to stay on task
