October 13, 2021

A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

It has been an incredibly busy week since last Wednesday’s Notification. We are closing out our testing for Start Strong with make-ups and CoGAT testing is complete.

The month of September and part of October typically involve assessing students academically, but it also involves teachers getting to know their students. Building rapport, creating a sense of community, and connecting with students are critical components for a successful school year and elementary experience.

Mark your calendars! We will be holding our annual Halloween Parade on October 29th at 1:45 pm.   A separate letter with more details will be emailed to all families in the coming weeks.   We will provide guidelines for costumes, parking, parade route location, classroom party information, and more.  We are very excited to bring back this Noecker tradition!

Message from our Noecker Cares Advisors, Mrs. Chartoff and Miss Buccelli:

We are excited to be receiving so many caring officer interest forms. All of the passion ideas have been amazing. We look forward to reading the 6th grade student's passion essays that are due this Friday, October 15th - We anticipate a great year with the Noecker Cares community.

If your child has misplaced any items, please remind them to stop by the main office to check our lost and found.  We have several jackets, sweaters, water bottles, and other miscellaneous items that have been in our lost and found since September!

A Note from Deanne Somers, Superintendent

Teachers and staff had a VERY productive Monday analyzing data of beginning of the year assessments (Running Records, IXL Diagnostics, Start Strong, and more), refreshing Handle with Care training, and focusing on inclusivity. Our Trimester 1 Noecker Reads texts have been slightly revised as we complete our scripts and units. They are:

  • Grades K-1 Alma Written and Illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal A Caldecott Honor Book

  • Grades 2-4 Where Are You From? Written by Yamile Saied Mendez and Illustrated by Jamie Kim

  • Grades 5-6 Islandborn Written by Junot Diaz and Illustrated by Leo Espinosa A Pura Belpre Honor Book

Trimester 1’s focus is on Identity:

  1. develop positive social identities

  2. group identities

  3. identities interact and create unique and complex individuals

  4. express pride, confidence and healthy self-esteem without denying the value and dignity of other people

  5. the way my family and I do things is both the same as and different from how other people do things

Approved at the September Board of Education meeting were the 2021-2022 Board Goals :

  • Financial - The Roseland Board of Education will develop and implement the annual budget to continue supporting educational and operational initiatives while providing fiscal accountability to the community and remaining cognizant of anticipated long-term financial needs.

  • Board  Training - The Roseland Board of Education will develop a support plan for new board members which encompasses skills in teamwork, consensus building, collaborative problem solving, and ethical decision making.

  • Board-Borough Partnership - The Roseland Board of Education will maintain ongoing and meaningful dialogue with the Borough government to best support the children of Roseland.

Please keep students home if they are not feeling well, even if it seems like “only a cold.” If students have traveled outside the tri-state area, someone in the household is waiting for test results, OR they have been exposed to a positive person, please contact the school nurse and stay home until PCR testing or quarantine is complete.
