6th Grade Graduation

It’s official! Graduation for our sixth grade class is set for Wednesday, June 16th at 10:30 am (rain date of June 17th at 10:30 am).  Here is a brief overview of what you can expect:

  • The ceremony will be outside in front of the school

  • Seating will be similar to an indoor ceremony, following all social distancing guidelines

  • You will receive (4) tickets per family

    • (2) tickets will be for general seating

    • (2) tickets will be for our standing room only section (you may bring your own chair)

As the date approaches, 6th grade families will receive a letter with more detailed information (e.g. parking, procedures for checking in, seating, guidelines for students, etc.).

Registration for Summer Enrichment is now closed.  Thank you to our families who registered and we look forward to seeing you this summer! Please stay tuned for more information in a separate email in the coming weeks.  We will provide you with more details on the schedule, health and safety guidelines, and other key information.

A Note from Deanne Somers, Superintendent

The next Roseland Board of Education Meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, May 20th ( click here for directions ). Our School Performance Update will be shared, as well as a special presentation from some of our 5th graders! We hope you can join us!

As you may know from the events of this year, school protocols do NOT always follow those meant for everyone/everywhere (the CDC is for everyone!). Our guidelines and protocols have not changed despite recent CDC recommendations and right now we have no updated guidance from the NJDOH . The CDC Update as of May 15, 2021 said: "CDC recommends schools continue to use the COVID-19 prevention strategies... for at least the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic school year ."

Governor Murphy's May 17th  Executive Order No. 241 says:

“1. Individuals in outdoor public spaces are not required to wear masks, regardless of their ability to maintain six feet of distance from other individuals or groups, and regardless of their vaccination status...

“2. In addition, for purposes of Paragraph 1 of this Order, “outdoor public spaces” do not include child care centers, other child care facilities, youth summer camps, and public, private, and parochial preschool program premises, and elementary and secondary schools , including charter and renaissance schools... “

We are THRILLED that positive rates are declining, that so many are vaccinated for themselves and those around them, and that we are able to remain onsite for the remainder of the school year. Please continue to do what you've done all year and, as always, we WILL let you know if/when anything DOES change.

A Note from Richard Celebre, Supervisor of Special Services

It is very hard to believe that we are almost exactly one month away from the last day of school! With the start of summer brings our Extended School Year (ESY) Program for eligible students.

By now, all eligible students should have been contacted by either their Case Managers or received a Google Form link to fill out your intention to send your child(ren) this summer. If you have not yet been contacted and believe you should have been, this may be for a few reasons: such as a scheduled, upcoming IEP meeting where eligibility is set to be discussed and determined, or because your child(ren)’s eligibility has changed. It may have also just been a mistake! Regardless, if you have additional questions regarding ESY or your child(ren)’s eligibility - do not hesitate to reach out to your Case Manager with questions.

For those attending, the format of the ESY program will be as follows:

  • The ESY Program will run from July 6th - July 30th, from 9:00am - 12:00pm.

  • The day will consist of 3, 55-minute periods broken up into ELA, Math, & an Enrichment period.

  • The students will be cohorted into groups, and teachers will rotate for ELA & Math instruction.

  • Snack (socially distanced) will occur daily.

  • While we are cautiously anticipating travel quarantine guidelines changing with the recent statements from Governor Murphy, we have no updated guidance from the NJDOH at this time. School protocols have not changed despite recent CDC recommendations, and will continue during the summer.

SPRING STUDENT HEALTH COMMITMENT verifies that you are aware of the travel guidelines and that your child has NOT traveled within the last 14 days, that your child has not been exposed to a positive individual or someone waiting for test results, and that your child does NOT have COVID symptoms . Please see the form, below, or the COVID-19 FAQ & Dashboard for additional information.

TRAVEL GUIDELINES

AT THIS TIME, we do not have updated guidance regarding travel quarantine. The CDC still recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinate d . Based upon guidance from our local DOH, unvaccinated individuals who travel beyond our immediate region are still required to quarantine for 14 days . We have requested updated information.

Important Notes From the School Nurse

Attention 5th Grade Families ! Certain vaccines are required prior to entering 6th grade. Please click here to view an important letter.

Please note that health screenings have begun. If your child is remote and you need your child screened, please contact the health office.

It is IMPERATIVE that any student who has been exposed to a positive person, traveled outside of the immediate area, is in a household with a symptomatic person, OR has any COVID symptoms (see below), not attend school. Quarantine timelines vary depending upon exposure, PCR test results, and travel, so please communicate promptly and contact the health office for assistance. Thank you!
