June 2, 2021

A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

It’s hard to believe that there are only a few weeks left of school.  It has been a most interesting experience to join a new school district during a pandemic.  Despite all of the obstacles we have faced together, our mission has not wavered; we will continue our work in supporting our students and the wider school community.

6th Grade Graduation Update

Attention 6th grade families! Please make sure to check your email for a letter regarding graduation. We thank you for your patience and understanding while we plan for this special event!

A Note from Deanne Somers, Superintendent

It’s JUNE!~ when the countdown really seems real! So many exciting things to look forward to as this incredible year comes to a close.

We are SO excited to begin planning for the 2021-2022 school year and optimistic it will look very close to normal. *fingers crossed* While we await updated guidance for September 1st, we have updated part of our Reopening Plan - the Safe Reopening Plan - as required to utilize ARP ESSER federal funding. We were eligible for over $180k for learning acceleration, mental health, and health and safety purposes. *The Safe Reopening Plan is based upon the 2020-2021 Restart and Reopening Plan (The Road Back)  and is pending NJDOE/NJDOH Guidance; it is subject to revision prior to September 2021* We fully anticipate updated guidance prior to our September 2021 opening day which will be communicated as soon as it is available. All documents can be found on our website!

A Note from Richard Celebre, Supervisor of Special Services

Happy June! Even with the end of the academic school year fast approaching, the Child Study Team is hard at work planning for the summer. I am attaching a document which provides general information regarding this year’s Extended School Year (ESY) program. If your child is in need of an evaluation over the summer, the Child Study Team will be in contact regarding scheduling and procedures for health screening prior to their arrival.

Looking ahead - The SEPAC will be holding a final Parent Collaboration meeting on June 10th @ 7 pm via Zoom. More information, and a flyer, will be forthcoming!

MASK REMINDERS

As you may know from the events of this year, school protocols do NOT always follow those we hear in the news. School guidelines and protocols have not changed despite recent CDC recommendations or Governor Murphy’s Executive Orders. The "CDC recommends schools continue to use the COVID-19 prevention strategies for at least the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic school year ." Governor Murphy's May 17th  Executive Order No. 241 states that, “outdoor public spaces” do not include elementary and secondary schools.

TRAVEL GUIDANCE

Unvaccinated individuals who travel out of the immediate area are to quarantine for 10 days upon return (no PCR COVID-19 test) OR 7 days with negative PCR test results collected at 5-7 days. The 14 day travel quarantine for unvaccinated travelers outside the immediate area is no longer in effect.

SPRING STUDENT HEALTH COMMITMENT verifies that you are aware of the travel guidelines and that your child has NOT traveled within the last 10 days, that your child has not been exposed to a positive individual or someone waiting for test results, and that your child does NOT have COVID symptoms. Please see the form, below, or the COVID-19 FAQ & Dashboard for additional information.

Important Notes From the School Nurse

Attention 5th Grade Families ! Certain vaccines are required prior to entering 6th grade. Please click here to view an important letter.

Please note that health screenings are in progress. If your child is remote and you need your child screened, please contact the health office.

It is IMPERATIVE that any student who has been exposed to a positive person, unvaccinated and traveled outside of the immediate area, is in a household with a symptomatic person, OR has any COVID symptoms (see below), not attend school. Quarantine timelines vary depending upon exposure, PCR test results, and travel, so please communicate promptly and contact the health office for assistance. Thank you!
