A Note from Deanne Somers, Superintendent

Dear Noecker Community,

I am very appreciative for the support of so many during my ~six school years as the Roseland School District Superintendent. While there have been challenges throughout, I am so proud of the many accomplishments we, as a school community, have achieved.

Despite 2021-2022 being our third year of pandemic-related difficulties, we have completed nearly every aspect of our five year strategic plan , increased students’ growth and achievement , developed our Special Education Department and programs , beautified and maintained our facilities, strengthened curriculum, instruction , and assessment , and continued to add initiatives which support the socio-emotional needs of our students, and all while ensuring fiscal responsibility and the health and safety of our school community!

The district has a remarkable administrative team and an incredible faculty and staff; the children of Roseland are in intelligent, compassionate, and capable hands! I thank you for the opportunity to serve and lead an amazing building of educators and students and wish all the best for Lester C. Noecker School and the people who make it a very special place.

With gratitude, 🧡

A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

I want to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Somers for all she has done for the Roseland School District.  In my short time here, I have observed her diligence, hard work, and strong leadership in all aspects of education.  Much of the work of a superintendent goes unnoticed; from strategic planning to ensuring that staff and students feel safe during our most challenging times, she poured herself into the position.  I thank you for setting the example for the administrative team, for guiding us, and for always having the students’ best interest at heart.  I wish you all the best in your next chapter!

The Great Kindness Challenge continues this week!  Please make sure to look at the grade level challenges by clicking here for K-2 and here for 3-6

Security Drill Law

Governor Murphy recently signed into law additional requirements for school security drills.   All public schools are now required to notify parents and to assure students that they are not in danger following security drills.  According to Governor Murphy, “These necessary exercises are proven to save lives but may also traumatize young children if not conducted in an appropriate manner. This legislation will ensure that school security drills provide students with the information and preparedness that they need to stay safe in emergency situations, while also taking steps to prevent drills from having a harmful impact on the mental health of our schoolchildren.” As we did yesterday, you will receive notification via e-blast on a monthly basis.

Smart Watches

Smart watches have become an issue due to distractibility in the classroom!  We want to ensure that students are fully engaged in their work to maximize their learning.  Smart watches, as with cell phones, must be turned off and out of sight.  Smart watches include Apple, Android, Fitbit, Gizmos, or any other brand.  Our policy is listed below:

CELL PHONE POLICY (ELECTRONIC DEVICES)

Students are permitted to bring cell phones to school. These devices are to be turned off and not visible while the student is in school. A student who uses his/her cell phone during school shall have the phone confiscated and be subject to disciplinary action aligned with our school’s Code of Conduct. Students are strongly encouraged NOT to use their cell phones while on the bus, unless it is for an emergency. Misuse of cell phones while riding the bus can result in phone confiscation or disciplinary action. A confiscated cell phone will only be returned to the parent or guardian. Cell phones may only be used with permission from a teacher or administrator.

Electronic devices refers to all communication transmitted by means including, but not limited to, telephones, cellular phones, computers, audio-video players/cameras, and smart watches. All students must comply with district policies and obtain permission from a staff member before using the device. The personal use of electronic communication is not permitted to interfere with the learning environment. Users may not use any form of electronic communication to bully, harass, discriminate against, threaten, or intimidate others

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services

Before sharing the reminder information for our upcoming workshop and 6th Grade West Essex IEP transition meetings, I wanted to also follow suit in taking this opportunity to acknowledge, and thank, Ms. Somers for her accomplishments and time here at Noecker. Aside from my first year with the district during the 2015-2016 school year, my tenure here at Noecker has lined up with Ms. Somers’. Over that time, I have had the privilege of working alongside Ms. Somers in multiple capacities; first as a special education teacher, then as a mentee while completing my coursework, and now most recently as a member of the administrative team. The lessons learned, and conversations shared, are some that I know I will hold onto in the future, and will recall throughout the duration of my career. As John Maxwell has said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Across all of my experiences within this school district, nothing describes the leader that Noecker has had in Ms. Somers the past six school years better. Thank you, and congratulations.
