A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

As we shine a light on Dr. King’s legacy, Noecker students recognized his contributions by examining his most famous speech and discussing his impact on our society.  Students in fifth and sixth grade conducted a close reading of his speech to analyze its powerful message and focus on its structure and vocabulary.  Students were encouraged to think about how they can add to their literary toolkits in order to give life to their own writing.  For our younger students, they were tasked with tapping into their big dreams to brainstorm ideas on how to make the world a better place.

The West Essex Middle School guidance visit went very well.  Our sixth-graders had many questions about WEMS and what they can expect as they prepare for middle school life.  In addition to the informational video and Q&A session, students were given packets to be completed and returned to their homeroom teacher.  Please make sure you  complete the packet with your child and return it no later than February 1st!  If you did not have an opportunity to view the video, it is still available on the WEMS Guidance website.  Please click here to view their site.

A Note from Deanne Somers, Superintendent

Very happy to note that our COVID numbers are beginning to recede from the holidays/post-holidays surge. Omicron remains highly contagious, of course, so please continue to do all that you can to keep our community safe.

Teachers and students are so busy here at Noecker School and still getting outside as much as they can. Please be sure children are dressed to enjoy winter weather and *fingers crossed* for above freezing and *snow*ice*free*days (though we are monitoring for Thursday morning).

We are looking at a slight revision to the 2022-2023 calendar pertaining to NJEA Convention and Fall Conferences; the revised calendar will be shared after it is approved at the February 17th Board of Education Meeting.

A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services

Happy Wednesday, families! One of the topics suggested during our Parent Topic Survey from earlier this year which received a number of votes to cover was Information regarding Preparation for IEP Meetings. The following documents have been gathered as resources. The resources will be put together and posted on the Special Education P/AC Google Site , under resources, in the coming days. This article from GreatSchools.org is a great starting point for information regarding steps parents can take to plan for their meetings . The article outlines steps and considerations for before, during and after an IEP meeting. Next, this IEP Fact Sheet provides a simplified overview of the key terms and the steps within the Special Education process which are helpful for ensuring a common level of communication across the team which, you as parents, are an integral part of.
