Welcome to Interim Superintendent, Dr. Brockel

The Roseland School District is happy to welcome Interim Superintendent, Dr. Richard Brockel, to the amazing Lester C. Noecker School community. Dr. Brockel will be leading the district through June 2022 as the Board of Education engages in the process of hiring a new permanent superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year. Welcome aboard, Dr. Brockel. We all look forward to working with you.

A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal

In yesterday’s morning announcements, I provided a description of the significance of Black History Month.  I also shared that I would be including a “fact of the day” to highlight prominent figures and to cast a spotlight on other individuals who have made important contributions, but perhaps don’t have the same level of fame or recognition - Individuals such as Gladys West, Mathematician, who played a critical role in the development of GPS technology or businessman David Steward who is the founder and Chairman of World Wide Technology, a billion dollar technology company.  We will look to share and highlight these individuals and their accomplishments throughout the month of February.

The Roseland Recreation Department posted several announcements on their website last week.  Please make sure to check out their flyers for wiffle ball, baseball, softball, youth track and more.  You can visit their website by clicking here or the bottom of this newsletter!

A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services

Happy Wednesday. A major component of special education and supporting families of children with special needs is gathering and sharing resources. Within our role as the special services department, we often receive recommendations of useful resources, websites, and groups that can help with this support beyond the classroom. I wanted to share a few websites and organizations that I have either come across personally, or had recommended, which could be valuable to you and your family.

  • KIT (Kids Included Together) - kit.org is an organization which focuses on spreading awareness, information, and the overall promotion of inclusivity for all children, in all walks of life.

  • The Mighty - themighty.com is a blog site which runs user submitted articles, posts, and resources across a range of topics from health to educational needs.

  • Respect Ability - respectability.org is a non-profit organization which, “Fights Stigmas And Advances Opportunities So People With Disabilities Can Fully Participate In All Aspects Of Community.”

I hope that the provided resources are useful, or at the very least provide a jumpstart into researching other information which may be of more direct interest to your families.

Looking (way!) Ahead - Our next parent workshop is on the calendar for Monday, March 7th with a topic of Accommodations and Modifications - What are available to your children in school and at home? Planning, a flyer, and additional information will be forthcoming!

Current Sixth Grade Families - In collaboration with the West Essex Child Study Team, case managers for current sixth grade families will be in touch to begin coordinating transition planning meetings for the move up to the middle school.
