As the fall weather settles in and the temperatures begin to drop, we’re reminded that the holiday season is quickly approaching! November and December are always a special time at Noecker, filled with opportunities to come together as a community.  Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we enjoy these festive months ahead!

Diabetes Awareness Month

November is Diabetes Awareness Month.  Diabetes refers to a group of diseases that affect how the body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is an important source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues of the body.

Chronic diabetes conditions include Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Potentially reversible diabetes conditions include prediabetes and gestational diabetes. Prediabetes happens when blood sugar levels are higher than normal, however, the blood sugar levels aren't high enough to be called diabetes. Gestational diabetes, diabetes occurring during pregnancy, affects up to 9% of pregnancies in the U.S. each year.

With Type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly treats the beta cells in the pancreas that create insulin as foreign invaders and destroys them. Symptoms include: urinating often, feeling very thirsty, feeling very hungry-even though you are eating, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts/bruises that are slow to heal, weight loss-even though you are eating more. Treatment includes receiving insulin and blood glucose monitoring.

With Type 2 diabetes, the body does not use insulin properly and this is known as insulin resistance. At first, the beta cells make extra insulin to make up for it. Over time, the pancreas can’t make enough insulin to keep the blood glucose at normal levels. Treatment for type 2 diabetes includes healthy eating and exercise. However, the health care provider may need to prescribe oral or injectable medications (including insulin) to help meet the target blood glucose levels.

Blood work such as the A1C test can be used to diagnose diabetes or help regulate the treatment plan by giving a picture of the average blood glucose (blood sugar) over the past two to three months. Getting yearly physicals and blood work can help stay ahead of any health risks.

Health Reminder ❣️

Please be sure to monitor your child for symptoms. If they are not feeling well, please keep them home, and they must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. In addition, Noecker requires that you not send your child to school if they present with the following:

• Fever in the past 24 hours. Do not give “Tylenol” before school, in an attempt to “get through the day”. Must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever-reducing medicine.

• Flu-like symptoms - Must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever-reducing medicine.

• Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours - Must be illness-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

• Bad cold, with a very runny nose or sore throat with a bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night or cannot participate in school.

• Unknown rashes- Must be seen by a physician to be identified and return to school only if the student is not contagious with a doctor’s note stating this with the diagnosis.

• Strep Throat- Must be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to school.

• Conjunctivitis- Must be on prescription eye drops 24 hours before returning to school.

School Lunch

We offer a cashless pay option for our school lunch through www.Payschoolscentral.com   However, if you do not wish to use the online system, you may send in an envelope with cash or a check and it will be deposited here at school.  If you have any questions please call the main office at extension 389.
