Please keep children home if they have any COVID-19 Symptoms . Our greatest desire is as much in-person/onsite instruction as possible. Until vaccines are widely available, 14-day quarantining for close contacts is still required which impacts staff availability and disrupts onsite learning.

A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal
All week long we have been celebrating Read Across America ! Students and staff have participated in themed days and have read the matching virtual books. We held a picture walk for all classes where students were able to view large print pictures and “stop and jot” ideas. Our staff has also added their favorite books to our giant bulletin board in the main hallway to promote the idea that reading is a passport to learning about ourselves and others. (click on pictures below to view full size)
Some staff members added their favorite children’s books and some shared their favorite adult selections. I had a chance to engage several students as they stopped to view the bulletin board. They found it very interesting that their teachers were into, as one student put it, “boring” books. Kids can be very honest! Nevertheless, we had some great conversations about our favorite books.
A Note from our Read Across America Committee:
Have you ever heard or watched the Masked Singer or the Masked Dancer? Well, the Read Across America Committee has something exciting for you! We would like to introduce to you the MASKED READER! Every Wednesday in March, there will be a link to a video where a staff member in snapchat disguise will share some clues about themselves and then read you a story! Using the clues and the sound of the reader's voice, see if you can figure out who the MASKED READER is! On Thursday, we will reveal the Reader and see if your guess is correct! Happy Reading!
Please remember that we have two themed days left!
Thursday 3/4 - Read a book about a different culture - Wear something to represent your family’s culture or hometown
Friday 3/5 - Read your favorite book and wear your favorite color
Also, don’t forget our virtual library here! The link will take you to a virtual library that contains several diverse titles. I encourage you to explore and discuss, not only the selections, but the overall importance of reading.

Last call to complete the LCN Reopening Health and Safety Survey ! As an extension of the prior Check In Survey, this survey seeks to gather data with regards to our Reopening Plan.
TRAVEL - Spring Break Travel Survey While we absolutely want to SAFELY open following Spring Break (we are, after all, actively exploring and planning next steps!), we have to acknowledge that some of our families may be traveling and others are concerned about those who are.
Our Spring Break this year begins Friday, April 2nd with our return to school on Monday, April 12th. At this time , the NJDOH is adhering to a 14-day quarantine for travel out of the immediate area (New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware). (Please see the LCN COVID-19 Dashboard and FAQ for additional information.) The 14-day quarantine *may* be altered (7-10 days) if our region moves to the Moderate Risk Leve l , but quarantine after travel (regardless of vaccines or positive status) is still anticipated. Please use the Spring Break Travel Survey to indicate if you are planning to travel April 2nd - April 11th (Spring Break), so that we may assess and plan accordingly.
A Note from Rich Celebre, Supervisor of Special Services
Happy Wednesday! Our Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) Survey is accessible here for the remainder of the week and will be closing on March 7th. Please take some time to complete the survey as your valued input is imperative in the continued collaborative growth of the organization.
Save the Date! We are also thrilled to have Ms. Monique Dujue Wilson, from SPAN , presenting at our upcoming SEPAC meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 11th. Information on the meeting, as well as Zoom login information, will be forthcoming via a flyer. From Ms. Wilson on what to expect from her “Parent Involvement in Special Education - Basic Rights presentation: “Parents learn to identify their dreams and goals for their children and their rights and responsibilities as parents of children with special needs under the Individuals with Disabilities EducationAct (IDEA). Families will leave with the knowledge and strategies necessary to be equal partners in the special education process.” I am looking forward to this presentation and hope that we have a great turnout!

Important Notes From the School Nurse
It is IMPERATIVE that any student who has been
exposed to a positive person,
traveled outside of the tri-state area,
is in a household with a symptomatic person, OR
has any COVID symptoms (see below), not attend school.
Quarantine timelines vary depending upon exposure, test results, and travel, so please communicate promptly and contact Nurse Noronha for assistance.
Please keep your child home, including siblings, if he/she has any COVID-19-like symptoms or has been exposed. If someone in the house is being tested, household members should likewise remain home until the test results come back and next steps can be determined. Thank you!
Please continue to monitor the guidelines found in the Health and Safety Commitment and notify Nurse Noronha if any member of your family has been exposed to anyone who has tested positive or is awaiting a test result of a symptomatic close contact. Any child with COVID symptoms will require a negative test result or the completion of isolation prior to returning to Noecker School ( January 2021 NJDOH/AAP Guidance ). |
