March 2, 2022
A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal
We kicked off RAA week with all students reading underneath their umbrellas in the hallways. We read our favorite books silently to celebrate literacy and emphasize its significance in academic life. As a follow up, tonight’s homework assignment for all grades can be found by clicking here !
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the following days:
-
Monday, March 21st - Evening Conferences
-
Tuesday, March 22nd, - Afternoon Conferences
-
Wednesday, March 23rd - Afternoon Conferences
We will be offering both in-person and virtual options for parents. By the end of the week your child’s teacher(s) will be reaching out to you with more specific information about signing up for a time slot and more. Please note that each day is a 12:55 pm dismissal!
Optional Masking
On Monday, March 7th masking will be optional for all students. We understand that it is a family’s decision and we will ensure students feel comfortable, mask or no mask. Please note that staff members will not be managing each family’s mask expectations.
Grade 6 Map Testing
This Friday, March 4th, West Essex staff will be at Noecker to help administer the MAP assessment for our 6th grade students. Students will only be taking the math portion of the assessment, as per West Essex’s guidelines. A make-up date will be determined after testing is completed.
A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services
Happy Wednesday, Everyone & welcome to March! March is a very busy month at Noecker for a number of great reasons. Before I get into the updates, I wanted to share our first Down Syndrome awareness and acceptance fact , which I will be sharing weekly all month-long. Down Syndrome is a genetic condition caused when abnormal cell division results in extra genetic material from chromosome 21. Each year, about 6,000 babies born in the United States have Down Syndrome; this equates to about 1 in every 700 babies, ( Facts About Down Syndrome ).
Updates - First, we have our Upcoming P/AC Workshop, Accommodations and Modifications - What are available to your children in school and at home? next Monday, March 7th , which will be held virtually starting at 6:30 PM. Register here if you have not already done so. The link will stay open until Sunday, March 6th. On Monday, I will send out a document to those registered with Zoom link information for the evening. Thank you!
Also, as was blasted out to the community this past Monday, the Department of Special Services & Noecker Cares will be holding a month-long donation program to help grow awareness and acceptance for Down Syndrome and World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st!) collecting pairs of *NEW* socks in the main office which will be donated at the end of the month. All sizes, colors, and patterns are welcome! On March 21st, it will mark our second year of running our #LotsOfSocks event for World Down Syndrome Day. On that day, we are asking all students to come in and wear a pair of socks that are going to get noticed - they might be mismatched socks or your most colorful socks! For more information, please take a look at our flier !
Progress Reports - The second set of progress reports for the year will be completed and mailed out in line with the end of the second trimester.
Current Sixth Grade Families - In collaboration with the West Essex Child Study Team, case managers for current sixth grade families will be in touch to begin coordinating transition planning meetings for the move up to the middle school.
